Hugo Alejandro is a Vancouver based, self taught artist originally born in Sonora, Mexico. He started his art journey at a young age by drawing and painting the world around him, later developing a unique and distinctive look that combines realism, cubism, and bold graphics with influence from traditional styles and a more modern street style. He then expanded to sewing/fashion, silversmithing, stone carving and silkscreening; starting his own brand RBRTH OFFICIAL which encompasses all of his mediums. He enjoys discoverying new mediums and creating new pieces from scratch at his home studio.
His main inspirations are his Mexican culture, nature, spirituality, music, pop culture and the human experience. Exploring his identity has been a big part of his journey and expressing this journey through his art, has been a liberating and healing/ therapeutic process. After being moved to Canada at a young age, Hugo has actively tried to reconnect to his indigenous Mexican roots and continues his journey to unlearn and re learn through a decolonial lense.
He currently also designs and customizes gear for award winning Indigenous artists such as Drezus & the Snotty Nose Rez Kids, and is on the creative team for Juno award winner DJ Shub. Hugo has also shown his co designed pieces with SAVAGEKIDS in Santa Fe and Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week in 2024. He continues to work with several brands and artists, creating some of the most boundary pushing, 1 of 1 pieces, locally, across Canada and internationally.
